Even if you can't make it to see me debut my new act at Open Circle Theater on the 30th, DO NOT MISS the Inaugural Academy Alumni show the previous evening at West Hall. Waxie Moon just added to the lineup (that's right, I will be performing alongside Waxie fucking Moon)! I will update with the Brown Paper Tickets link as soon as it comes available.

Two and a Half Months of Busy-ness
Wow, I haven't updated in about a month and half. I used to be less productive at work, I think. Anyways. A whole bunch has been going on! I've seen a number of terrific shows and worked several different events as well.
I believe that shortly after my last post, I sold raffle tickets and did pick-up for the Amsterdam or Bust! fundraiser, which helped raise money to send Armitage Shanks, Tamara the Trapeze Lady, Inga Ingenue, Fuschia Foxx and Sydni Deveraux to the Amsterdam Burlesque Festival. Obviously, with that talent accompanied by Jenny Penny and Miss Polly Wood, the show was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed Jenny Penny's aerial routine on the large ring to Portishead's "Glory Box".
I also helped out at the Burlesque 202 and Burlesque 101 recitals. I love being a part of the Academy. I look forward to what the future holds.
AND of course, there was the Burlesque Nutcracker... Land of the Sweets. I worked on commission selling TwirlyGirl pasties, Land of Sweets panties, and rhinestone hair flowers, and was able to see the show four times. Absolutely spectacular.
Since Land of the Sweets, things have been slow, meaning my weekends have been free. I've been able to spend time with some spectacular friends and work on costuming for my Mannequin Man act which I hope to debut sometime in February or March.
As for the future... This weekend, I will be taking a fan dancing taught by Michelle L'Amour, of Chicago, who is in town for Naked Girls Reading on Sunday. My lovely boyfriend purchased me white ostrich feather fans for Christmas and they have yet to arrive and it seems doubtful they will be here by Saturday but I'll make do just fine. A week from Saturday, I will be auditioning for a part in the Atomic Bombshells upcoming production. I'm not getting my hopes up too high, as a lot of girls are trying out, and I'm sure many of them have far more dance experience than I, however I feel I would truly regret not giving it a shot. We shall see. Oh and I've been booked! I will be performing my Happy House routine at the Inaugural Academy of Burlesque Alumni show on January 29th at West Hall and will certainly follow up with more details as soon as I have them.

BurlyCon 2009
So, I know... it's been forever since I've written. I've been swamped since my Burlesque 101 recital with both increasing responsibilities at my day job (BOO!) and increasing involvement in the burlesque community. I had the opportunity to work a paid gig last Saturday thanks to Miss Georgia Myles, greeting and seating guests at wedding taking place down a the Rendezvous in Belltown. Elizabeth D., a Sinner Saint sweetheart, was wonderful enough to dress me up cabaret style. Much thanks to both of those beautiful ladies.
As for right now, I am currently typing away at a laptop stationed at the registration table of BurlyCon, which is taking place at the Quality Inn and Suites just off of Aurora down by Seattle Center. This is the second year of BurlyCon, an educational and social burlesque convention.curated by Miss Indigo Blue of Seattle and Jo Boobs of New York.
Unfortunately, due to that stupid day job I spoke of earlier, I was FORCED to miss the workshops on Thursday and most of Friday. I attended the Thursday evening Vintage Meet and Greet hosted by Melissa Flynn. I began the workshops yesterday afternoon with Paula the Swedish Housewife's "Booking and Getting Booked". Super informative and, of course, I was blown away by the Housewife presence. That woman puts one foot in the room and she fills the room... This workshop was followed by the Von Foxies teaching comedy, which was of course hilarious. They introduced me to the Freudian idea of humor. That which makes uncomfortable, makes us laugh. My only qualm with this workshop was that I had to sit on the floor for an hour and half which was massively uncomfortable but did not make me laugh. After the Von Foxies, I was honored to attend Michelle L'Amour's "Marketing Yourself" which focused on developing a brand, promotion, and strategy.
This weekend, however informative and helpful, has also been daunting. I've spend the majority of the last two days with about 200 beautiful and talented women, it's hard to feel unique or like I even have a chance in this glamorous world. So, this morning, I woke up bright and early for the founder of Tease-O-Rama and member of the Devilette's, Baby Doe's 8:00am class "Shining Out in a Sea of Glitter". It was an abolutely wonderful way to start my day, with discussion regarding etiquette, congeniality, and taking care of your health and happiness. It renewed my hope to hear that standing out means being selfless and helpful. Ah...synchronicity... After Baby Doe's class, I walked over to a dance studio in the Seattle Center to learn "Theater Techniques" from Waxie Moon, was incredible but you probably already assumed that if you know anything about Waxie Moon.
Now I am almost to the halfway point of my volunteer hours this afternoon and looking forward to the 80's glam, Pants-Off, Dance-Off this evening... stay tuned for more updates at the end of the weekend!

"Real" Fall is Here
Wow, is it Friday already? I've been slacking. Haven't had a whole lot of time to write recently, not even on my the new Favorite Things series. I've had a swamped work week and my free time has been consumed as well, but more about that later.
Also Saturday night, head on down to Cafe Amore on the corner of Fifth and Bell to check out "I Dream of Phoebe" starring the "Divine"-esque Phoebe Fondue, Caressa Dick, Starry Day, Alana, Sunny Cummings, Zan the Rad Dyke Plumber, and Bobby Beefcakes. I had the privilege of attending their last performance, and while there were some spots that probably needed some work (microphones were going out left and right), I hadn't laughed that hard in quite some time. Paper. Towel. Penis. That's all I need to say. Be there at 9pm. Call Cafe Amore if you need more information (206) 770-0606. (Image courtesy of their Facebook invite)
Earlier this week, Jen Graves, Arts critic/writer for the Stranger, wrote a nice piece for Slog on Pacific Northwest Ballet's production of Romeo et Juliette. Now I don't get to the ballet as much as I'd like to, but frankly, I prefer performances that evoke some sort of emotional response. Not to say ballet doesn't because I've seen some pretty freaking emotional ballet, but as an awkward and confused young woman, I simply cannot relate to teeny tiny pretty ladies prancing around on stage nor with my fellow patrons sitting in the seats beside me. Often with contemporary fringe and cabaret, I feel comfortable not only sitting in the audience but within the piece itself, as if me and it are complimentary. I leave feeling exhilarated whether it be with happiness or sadness. Ballet has never been able to do that for me, however upon reading Miss Graves review of Romeo et Juliette and watching the video accompanying the post (also posted below), I am feeling hopeful about this production. Perhaps the intensity and sexuality of this production will do for me what the ballet experience has been unable to do up until now. It's running through Sunday. View the PNB's website for more details and to purchase tickets.
Tonight, the Can Can down beneath Pike Place Market intended to premier their new production the Bolly Horror Picture show, a Bollywood spin on what else, but the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I say intended because their Facebook page informed me this morning that tonight's show was cancelled! Horrible! Instead catch this interesting concoction tomorrow night at 10:30pm at 94 Pike Street. The Bolly Horror Picture Show will be showing every Friday through the end of October. Please call (206) 652-0832 for more details and to purchase tickets.

(Image courtesy of their Facebook invite)For some Sunday afternoon retail therapy, visit Chop Suey from noon to 4:00pm for I Heart Rummage, a collection of 40+ indie craft vendors. Unfortunately, September's IHR was cancelled due to lack of vendors, so this month's is NOT to be MISSED. Special guests include the Ruby Room and NW Film Forum to coincide with their screening of Handmade Nation a documentary on the DIY and crafting lifestyle. More details on that here.
In regards to my mention of unavailable free time earlier in this post, I will now elaborate. You might remember me mentioning my enrollment in Mis Indigo Blue's Academy of Burlesque in a few of the earlier posts of this blog. Well, next Friday, October 9th all my hard work will come to a precipice at my recital! There will be two performances at 7pm and 9pm each including 15 individual acts ranging from hungover party girls to misanthropic masturbators! I will not even hint as to what I have created... you will just have to come see it for yourself. I have two tickets left for the 7pm show and one left for the 9pm at $10 a piece. To purchase them at this reduced price, email me (th3.wasp at gmail dot com) as soon as possible as these will be gone before the weekend is over. If you will not have a chance to meet up on Capitol Hill sometime this weekend, you are welcome to purchase tickets at a slightly increased fair here at Brown Paper Tickets. It is highly unlikely any will be available the day of the show so please plan ahead. I hope to see you all there!
Have a great weekend everyone!
